The Women of Hawthorne Book Club

The club started in 2009.  They are a group of all women who live on Hawthorne between Charlevoix and Marter Rds.  The block holds an annual block party and the idea for the book club was born at the block party.

The first book read was The Shack.  IThe book club meets every 4-6 weeks from September to June. A partial list of what they’ve read is below. The book club members run the age gamut from 20’s to 80’s.  Some of the members just moved in within the last 2 years and some ladies have lived her for 40 years. There are a few teachers–some retired. Others are social workers, legal assistants, US. govt. employees, forensic scientists. The book club has used the library book kits.

They take turns hosting the discussions and their meetings are very informal.  No fancy refreshments, just good conversation and fellowship.  There is no formal selection process for the books.  People just make suggestions based on what they have heard about, read about etc.  The book we are reading this month is Wild by Cheryl Strayed.  We picked this book from a list called 16 books to read before they come out as movies.
